Today we began our curriculum in writing, Reading, Math, and Theme. It was a lot to delve into! Our first unit of writing is personal narratives. You can support your child by asking them to recall little moments in time in their lives that made an impact, left them wondering, or is just a happy memory. Sometimes it is hard for them to think of things to write about. In math we are reviewing addition and subtraction strategies and working with the cuisenaire rods. Our first unit of study in theme is Social Groupings. Ask your child questions like "Why is it important to belong to a group, pack, or herd?" They already seem to know so much! You could also ask them about the wolf, OR-7, who traveled 205 miles to find a mate! They came up with some pretty logical reasons in class.
Our class is collecting school supplies for Louisiana children who were victims of the massive flooding. We talked about how school openings were delayed, some schools were destroyed, and some schools are still being torn down. Talking about the flooding gave us a start on learning our Cardinal Directions of North, South, East, and West . It is always so refreshing to see how much children want to help others. If you have an extra note-book, pack of crayons, pencils, etc and would like to donate it, please send it in with your child.
