Busy last two weeks!
Dear Families,
Thank you so much for your patience with our report card delay. Being a mixed grade report card seemed to confuse the company we use to generate report cards! It was so great to meet with you during conferences.
I feel that it is more helpful to talk and discuss what is going on in the classroom than a piece of paper, anyway!
Even though these past two weeks were shorter, we accomplished so much. We are fully immersed in our curriculum at this point in the year. In Literacy our class is doing in-depth activities with Realistic Fiction. Ask your child what the elements of realistic fiction are, and when they are reading at home ask if what they are reading is realistic fiction and why. In writing they are finishing up their Small Moment stories, and have learned a few writer's techniques on how to generate a story. Third graders are learning multiplication in math now, along with practicing elapsed time and other remedial skills. Fourth graders are practicing 2x1 multiplication using the area model. In Theme we are finishing our Life Cycles Unit. We looked at how the Life Cycle of all living things (plants and animals) all have four components.
Ask your child what the components are! Along with the core of our curriculum we are also practicing Word Study (spelling and language) using Front Row, a computer program that adapts to your child's particular level. We also participated in a mock-election voting for our Governor and President. The students really enjoyed this. These children should be exhausted by the end of the day, yet they are still full of energy!
Next Thursday, the 17th, we have ECO. We will be focussing on Heredity in both plants and animals, which we will connect to our next study in Theme.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or questions about anything you are wondering about in school. I am more than happy to answer any of your questions.
ECO ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17TH!
